Dead Wrong

The Huffington Post reported recently that a Swedish woman received compensation from an airline because she had to sleep next to a dead man on an overnight flight from Amsterdam to Dar Es Salaam.  Well as airline complaints go I suppose at first glance that is a pretty valid complaint.  Not a very pleasant experience.

But read on – apparently the young man who died on the flight was laid out on three seats across the aisle from the Swedish passenger.  This is apparently a standard procedure with airlines in that the body should be placed somewhere as discreet as possible without blocking the emergency exits.  When there is a full flight the body may sometimes be left in the seat.  With very little storage room it doesn’t leave the flight crew many options.  Nevertheless the Swedish passenger felt that she had been sufficiently inconvenienced that she could demand her money back from the airline.  She did receive half of her fare back – about $700.  I wonder how satisfied she was with herself and why she felt the airline was to blame?
